Taiwan< Asia

Travelling to Taiwan.

Taiwan, also known as Republic of China (ROC) is an island nation in east Asia. It is bounded to the east by the Pacific Ocean, to the south by the South China Sea, to the west by the Taiwan Strait and to the north by the East China Sea.

The country was also known as Formosa which in Portuguese language means “Beautiful Island”. The central part of the island has a mountain range.

Taiwan has a number of national parks. One of the famous one is Taroke national park. This national park has a marble gorge called “Taroke Gorge”. To reach Taroke Gorge, one can fly or take a train from Taipei to eastern coastal town of Hualien. From Hualien one can take a tourist bus to reach Taroke National Park and the Gorge.
The traditional Chinese consider eating as an art and their sociel life revolves around eating together. It is not surprising to see chinese eating in a restaurent and arguing about society and politics etc. in a loud voice.

Night markets are integral part of chinese life. They open at around 6pm in the evening and often continue till early morning. All these night markets contain food stalls as well.
Often each food stall prepares only one dish and the name of the food stall is also derived from the item that is served in the stall. Its is not surprising to note that many of these individual food stalls also have their websites listed in the name plate.

Worlds tallest building named Building 101 is at Taipei, capital of Taiwan. It is within a few minutes walk from Taipei City Hall MRT (Metro) station. The best way to travel in Taipei is to use the MRT and the city buses.

The chinese language can look strange and fascinating to foreigners. During my 2 weeks stay I attempted to pick up a bit of it. If you want to find how chinese sounds and how it is pronounced, here is a video from www.activechinese.com.
