Nizamabad
Introduction and history : The city of Nizamabad is located in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, India. The history of Nizamabad is noted from the fact that it was ruled by kind Indra Vallabha belonging to Rashtrakuta Dynasty during 8th century, because of which it also has another name called Indur or Indrapuri. The current name Nizamabad is derived from the Nizam of Hyderabad, Asaf Jah in 1905. The British constructed an important railway line connecting Hyderabad and Mumbai that served as North-South corridor, with Nizamabad as a major station on the line. In 20th century Nizamabad is popularly known as commercial centre of Andhra Pradesh.
What to see : The city of Nizamabad is popular for its water reservoirs and dame. The popular Nizamsagar Dam was constructed across the Manjira river, a tributary of the Godavari, between Achampet and Banjapalle villages of Nizamabad district. Ali Sagar is another major huge reservoir in the city. Other major attractions include Pochampadu Project, Bodhan, Pocharam Sanctuary, Nizamabad Fort, Ali Sagar, and Deer Park. For spiritual travelers can explore attractions like Sri Neela kantheswara Temple and Sarangapuram Temple. October to February is the best time to visit Nizamabad.
Accommodation : There are multiple options in Nizamabad, but not many luxury options available. A good quality accommodation can be arranged by paying about 600 rupees per day.
Mode of Transport : Hyderabad is the nearest Airport located about 180 Kilometers from the city. Travelers need to take bus or trains or hire taxis for traveling over the remaining distance. Nizamabad Railway Station is connected with all the major towns and cities of the state as it forms one of the important railway junctions in Andhra Pradesh. The city is well connected with other parts of the country by National Highway 7 (NH-7), which connects from Kanyakumari to Varanasi.
