Badami

Introduction and Histroy :
The town of Badami is located at Bagalkot District of Karnataka. The contemporary history describes Badami as a town with little activities but it was the capital of the Badami Chalukyas between 5th to 7th centuries. Known for its is famous for rock cut and many other temples in the surroundings, Badami is a great example for some of the best traditions of Dravidian architecture including an experimental blend of older South and north Indian temple architectures. Followed by Chalukyas, Badami saw a succession of rulers of which the Chalukyas were only the most important. From an architectural standpoint it has sculptures here from periods ranging as far back as the 7th century Pallava rule to as recently as the 19th century Marathas.
What To See :Badami is very famous for its carved rock temples, made of soft Deccan red stone. The main cave temples are dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Jain saints. Bhuthanatha Temples, Badami Fort, Archaeological Musuem, Aihole, Durga Temple, Ravanaphadi Cave, Bhagavati Temple and Pattadakal are the major attractions in Badami. The ideal time to visit Badami is between September and February.

Accomodations :Various types of hotels and resorts are available to suit all budgets. Many hotels charge from 500 up to 2000 rupees per day. For short duration stay, hotels are available at very economical prices starting from 100 rupees per day.
Mode Of Transport :Belgaum is the nearest Airport from Badami, which is located at 150 Kilometers distance. The main railway station is located on the Hubli - Sholapur rail route, which is 5 Kilometers from the town. The town is well connected by roads to Hubli and Bijapur. Local travel is mainly in the form of auto rickshaws.
