Srisailam


Srisailam is a pilgrimage and tourist destination located at Nallamalai hills, Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh. The uniqueness of this place comes from the fact that it is a unique combination of forest sanctuary and pilgrimage town. A famous temple dedicated to Lord Mallikarjuna Swamy and Bhramaramba is located here, which is one among the various Jyothirlingam of India.The Srisailam has a long history, where it is referenced in the ancient Hindu Puranas, and the epic Mahabharata and its heroic legends. The forests of Srisailam are home to India’s largest tiger reserve.

What to see : The famous Mallikarjunaswamy Temple located on a 457 Meter hill, which is the main attraction of this place. Other attractions of the place include Srisailam Dam on the River Krishna, which offers magnificent views of the ghats, cliffs and forests. Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve is another attraction which has animals like tiger, leopard, jungle cat, wild dog, sloth bear, smooth-coated otter, palm civet, and striped hyena, several species of deer, Indian pangolin, and giant flying squirrel. November to March is the ideal time to visit Srisailam.

Accommodation : Basic low budget accommodation is the norm at Srisailam, though you can also stay at private guesthouses and motels. Devasthanam cottages and AP Tourism promoted guest houses are also available. A luxury accommodation can cost up to 500 rupees per day.

Mode of Transport : Hyderabad is the nearest airport, located at 232 Kilometers from Srisailam. Markapur (85 Kilometers) and Vinukonda (120 Kilometers) and Kurnool (190 Kilometers) are nearby railway stations. It is also well connected with other parts of Andhra Pradesh by road where APSRTC promoted buses connect the city with all major destinations.
